I love over head light weight headphones like these because they don't fall off like earbuds yet allow you to hear the outside world enough to be aware of what's going on. For the price, it's not bad. Alternatively, they can be pressed into your ear a bit to block more sound (but won't achieve isolation like in-ear buds).This sony model fits nicely, is lightweight, and has a very useful volume control on the cord. However, the quality is low and my earpad occasionally pops out; and these are not abused as I use them at my desk at work.My big complaint is the sound. However when compared to Sennheiser PX-10's of similar design (and at the time I paid only $5 more for them) the Sennheiser's blew the sony's out of the water with more musical sound, broader range, and less fatiguing highs.For this reason, I recommend anyone looking at sony headphones to take a serious look at Sennheisers. I've used other models of both, and every time the Sennheisers sound better.
I would say the biggest problem is that these headphones only last about 6 months before the connections inside the earpiece go bad. These are nice, inexpensive, over-the-head headphones which are the only ones I can use---I am one of those people for whom earbuds just fall out immediately when doing any kind of activity. These headphones are not rated as `sports' headphones, probably because they do not have a moisture guard like some of the more expensive ones, but they work fine for me (and, in fact, I've had the moisture-guard versions die on me anyway). They are too small to re-solder easily, so just be prepared to toss these after they go bad. They are still inexpensive enough to make them worthwhile, since the more expensive ones fail after a year or so.
I guess they liked them too. I had these before and loved them. Someone borrowed them from me and never gave them back, so I needed to replace them. Great sound quality. No problems with shipping either.
The first pair I had, one side shorted out after about a year. I'm on my second pair of these and have decided to switch to a different headphone. I use them for the gym with my Creative Zen Stone. The pair I am on now shorted out just after 8 months. I love the headphone but wish they would sort out the issue as it seems to be pretty common.
Consequently, I don't need audiophile quality headphones for mobile listening. I picked up these headphones to use with an iPod. They do exactly what I want them to do: allow me to listen to music without having to worry about keeping track of an expensive pair of earbuds or headphones.I think the sound quality is decent, with the caveat that I don't like hearing a lot of bottom end and I use AAC-encoded files on my iPod. When I want to hear great sound, I listen to my home stereo (yes, that's incredibly old school, I know).Bottom line: a good value, as long as you're willing to live with the limitations of a pair of cheap headphones. If you want noise canceling, mega bass response, or something flashy to impress your friends, the MDR-W24V isn't for you.
